Chairman, Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre & President, Madras Diabetes Research Foundation,  Chennai.

  • Main research interests are Epidemiology of diabetes and its  complications, Genomics of diabetes,  Fibro-calculous Pancreatic Diabetes and Precision Diabetes.

  • Conferred Fellowships from all the four Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) [Lond, Edin, Glasg, Ire] and all 3 Science Academies of India including Fellowship of Indian National Science Academy (FNA). 

  • Received over 190 awards including the Dr. B.C. Roy National Award by the Medical Council of India and the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Centenary Award for Excellence in Biomedical Research  from the ICMR, the highest award for biomedical research in India. In 2018, he received Dr. Harold Rifkin Award from the American Diabetes Association and he is the first Indian to receive this award. Recently he has conferred the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE) from the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

  • Published over 1,400 papers in peer reviewed journals including 900 original articles, 300 review articles and invited editorials and 200 chapters to text-books on Diabetes and Internal Medicine. His work has received over 156,000 citations and has a h index of 139.

  • In 2012, Dr. Mohan was awarded the Padma Shri, from the Govt. of India.
