Dr. Lakshmi Sundar has been practicing lifestyle medicine for the past 2 years. She is also a consultant with SHARAN.

Dr. Lakshmi graduated from Stanley Medical College, Chennai in 1990. She trained in general Surgery with Dr.N S Murali, who was considered a pioneer in salvaging limbs in people with diabetic foot infections in India. After a short stint in cardiac surgery with Dr.Devi Shetty at BM Birla, Kolkotta and Dr. Balakrishnan at SRMC Chennai, she moved back to working in the field of diabetic foot.

Having been a voice for the animals and a social activist all her life, she took a break to work with the Banyan, an organisation that works with homeless mentally ill women in Chennai. She set up their community health centre in Kovalam, Chennai.

She runs an amputation prevention clinic at Dr. A.Ramachandran’s Diabetes hospitals, Chennai. She was also the lead clinical researcher in a multi centric study on Developing an insole for persons with Diabetes, headed by the Biomechanics Department at the Staffordhsire University. She heads a fully equipped foot department at the ARH, Chennai.

She realised the importance of a holistic approach to health when she took up running in 2014, the first time ever she was doing any kind of physical activity. She is now a marathoner and President of Chennai Runners which has close to 4000 runners across 17 chapters in the city of Chennai.

Having worked with persons with diabetes for over 25 years, she realised the care people received was only towards disease management and not about wellness. This made her re visit the reason why she became a doctor in the first place. She now focuses completely on a wellness approach and educates patients on the need to be pro active with their health. She also qualified as a Diplomate of IBLM in 2021.
