ISLM Experts Highlight Role of Digital Health in Chronic Disease Management at 20th International Conference by Telemedicine Society of India

At the 20th International Conference of the Telemedicine Society of India, representatives from the Indian Society of Lifestyle Medicine (ISLM)—Dr. Anjali, Dr. Shaifali, and Dr. Anchal—delivered a compelling presentation on leveraging digital health tools for sustainable lifestyle modifications in chronic disease management.

Speaking to a diverse audience of global experts and stakeholders, the ISLM representatives emphasized the transformative potential of telemedicine, health apps, wearable technologies, and social media in addressing chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer.

“Telemedicine has come a long way since its inception in the 1960s. Today, with over 1.2 billion mobile users in India, we have a unique opportunity to use digital tools to bridge healthcare disparities, particularly in rural and underserved areas,” said Dr. Anjali.

Highlighting the power of mobile health apps, the team noted how these tools enable users to monitor their health, access personalized guidance, and sustain behavioral changes in areas like nutrition, physical activity, and mental well-being.

Dr. Shaifali elaborated on the role of wearable devices, saying, “Smartwatches and fitness trackers are more than gadgets—they provide real-time insights into activity levels, sleep patterns, and stress management. By integrating these into clinical workflows, we can enhance patient care and promote adherence to lifestyle interventions.”

The experts also discussed the critical role of social media platforms in creating supportive health communities. “Online groups and forums foster accountability, disseminate evidence-based information, and combat misinformation, making them vital tools for patient engagement,” said Dr. Anchal.

The team underscored the importance of telemedicine in connecting these technologies with clinical expertise, enabling remote consultations, data-driven insights, and virtual coaching sessions to optimize chronic disease management.
However, they acknowledged existing challenges, including the digital divide, data privacy concerns, and information overload. The panel advocated for investments in digital infrastructure, robust data protection policies, and simplified analytics to ensure equitable and effective healthcare delivery.

The ISLM representatives concluded by urging collaborative efforts in research, policy, and practice to harness the full potential of digital health, envisioning a scalable model for global health improvement.

The presentation resonated with the conference’s overarching theme, underscoring telemedicine’s growing role in transforming healthcare accessibility, personalization, and sustainability.

President, ISLM- Dr Rabbanie has applauded the efforts of the entire team for presenting their exemplary innovative solutions at the 20th International Conference by Telemedicine Society of India.
