Dr. Suvetha Kannappan completed her MBBS from Coimbatore Medical College in 2001 and specialized in Community Medicine (2002-05) from Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research where she graduated as the best outgoing student winning the Kesavulu educational trust gold medal. Thereafter she had gained vast experience in academia, research, public health management and primary care.
She has served as district consultant at UNICEF for a national program to prevent neonatal and childhood deaths. For the past 13 years she is working in the department of Community Medicine at PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Coimbatore where she is currently a Professor. She has been actively involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical students; pursuing research and guiding student research; planning, implementing and evaluating community intervention programs and running NCD clinics at primary care level.
Her areas of special interest are in prevention and health promotion focusing on cardiovascular health and work place-based health. Due to her keen interest in cardiovascular health promotion she also is a faculty in the preventive cardiology division of the Department of Cardiology at the same institution where she contributes for patient care, training and research. The preventive cardiology division has initiated and successfully running a number of programs for primary and secondary prevention of heart disease at the community and institutional level.
Her recent accomplishments include obtaining the International Board certification in Lifestyle medicine (IBLM, 2021) and the Masters in Health Professions Education (Assessment and Accreditation) from Keele University (UK) in 2022 through a scholarship named International fellowship in medical education(IFME) awarded by FAIMER, Philadelphia.
